Mystery Valley is a large region within Monument Valley which is visited less often by tourists. In Mystery Valley we traveled over vague tracks, rock, and sandy soil. Driving mile after mile, up and down on these rough indistinct paths, the experienced navajo guide knew exactly where we were and where we were going. Although the landscape is sometimes desolate, at other times the mesas, rocks, and arroyos are filled with brilliant colors seemingly beyond imagination but actually very real.
Imagine, unveiling the secrets of the old legacy of the Anasazis. Like strands of early-morning mist, the mystic legends of these Ancient Ones float through and pervade these area. You can travel to the past and unfold the mysteries as physical evidence of their past is revealed by the authentic rock arts where their sacred grounds still remain. As we drive alongside the painted walls and age-old dwellings, stories begin to slowly unfold. Silently we begin to discover and imagine the lives of these ancient forefathers. Following the prehistoric trails we also discover the eye catching natural bridges, arching across the desert floor, delicately connecting the massive sandstone rocks. Mystery Valley is like the Undiscovered Country, where not many have gone and which few have witnessed.
I hope my photographs convey some of the feeling of wonder that we experienced in this unique natural world with its remnants of an ancient Anasazi civilization.
