Monteverde Costa Rica area which comprises ten towns with 8,000 people, is situated on the continental divide at an elevation of 5,600 feet. The Monteverde region is well known for its commitment to the sustainable development of the community and the conservation of the cloud forest reserves. This area is a rural region and is a 4.5 hour bus ride from San José. The average daily temperature is 65º to 75ºF. The climate is typically cool and at times wet so it is recommended to bring rain gear and boots (especially if you plan to visit the reserves) as well as pants, long-sleeved shirts and a light jacket.

In this Costa Rica rainforest are found more than 100 species of mammals including 5 species of cats, over 400 species of birds including 30 kinds of hummingbirds, tens of thousands of insect species (over 5000 species of moths) and 2,500 species of plants (420 kinds of orchids).

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve of Costa Rica is acclaimed as one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges in the New World Tropics. Plan at least a few days to explore the cloud forest area, one of the most famous ecotourism orientated community in Central America. There is so much to do, choosing is difficult!
